Fake news surrounding the Hungarian–American meeting

Orbán Viktor és kísérete 2025. november 7-én hivatalos látogatást tett Donald Trumpnál Washingtonban. A megbeszélések fő témái az eredetileg Budapestre tervezett orosz–amerikai békecsúcs és a kétoldalú gazdasági együttműködés bővítése voltak. A magyar miniszterelnök szerint a látogatás célja egy új, stratégiai-gazdasági partnerség kialakítása a Trump-kormányzattal. A találkozóról több hazai lap is beszámolt, és már a kiindulási repülőúton is rengeteg videó és felvétel készült. A hatalmas médiafigyelem rengeteg szenzáció-hajhász tartalommal járt együtt.

A repülőút során a résztvevők maguk is több tartalmakat megosztottak, azonban bizonyos online médiumok ezeket igyekeztek minél jobban kiforgatni. A Contextus online kiadása például: „Rendkívüli lesivideó jött Orbán Viktor repülőútjáról, különös szöveg megy a háttérben” címmel közölt bejegyzést. A cikket egyéb kisebb online magazinok is átvették megegyező címmel.

Ezekben a cikkekben úgy állítják be, mintha egy különleges, titokban felvett jelenet került volna ki a miniszterelnök gépéről. Valójában azonban semmilyen új vagy titkos felvétel nem készült: a szóban forgó klipek az eddig ismert nyilvános videók felhasználásával készültek. A hasonló című cikkek nem egyszerre, hanem eltérő napokon jelentek meg, tartalmuk azonban lényegében megegyezik.

A hírek állításaival ellentétben nem került napvilágra semmiféle „rejtett” vagy „titkos” videó Orbán gépéről – a megosztott anyagok mind a hivatalos sajtótájékoztatók, közösségi média-bejegyzések keretében hozzáférhetőek voltak. Az ígért „titkos videó” valójában nem létezik; a legtöbb ilyen cikkben a beágyazott videót tartalmazó rész vagy törölt tartalomra mutatott, vagy egyéb, már korábban bemutatott felvételre hivatkozott.

Egy másik kattintásvadász cím ugyanerről az oldalról, az alábbi címmel került fel az internetre: „Döbbenetes mondat hangzott el az amerikai tévében a Trump-Orbán csúcs után Magyarországról élő adásban”. A contextus.hu, illetve a promotions.hu portálon megjelent anyag valójában Orbán Balázs, a miniszterelnök politikai igazgatójának a CNN-ben adott interjúját írja le, és nem tartalmaz semmiféle valóban döbbenetes vagy váratlan kijelentést. A cím tehát félrevezető: a cikk nem idéz semmiféle „megdöbbentő” mondatot, pusztán azt emeli ki, hogy a CNN élőben foglalkozott a találkozóval, amint azt az Orbán Balázs TikTok-oldalára posztolt videó is szemlélteti. A valós tartalom alapján látható, hogy itt is inkább a figyelem felkeltése volt a cél, nem pedig bármi tényleges politikai „szenzáció” bemutatása.

Egy a többek között elemi.hu által közölt hír szerint az Európai Bizottság azonnal vizsgálatot indított Magyarország ellen a Trump–Orbán-találkozó miatt. Több portál ilyen hangzatos címmel közölt cikket, amelyek egységesen egy olasz lapra (Il Giornale) hivatkoztak – állításuk szerint az Európai Bizottság szóvivője, Anna-Kaisa Itkonen jelezte, hogy azonnali vizsgálni kezdik a Donald Trump által adott mentesség részleteit.

Az EU bizottság szóvivője, aki alapvetően az energiával kapcsolatos témák szakértője, ugyan valóban megszólalt az eset kapcsán, de nem egészen úgy, ahogy arra a címek alapján számítani lehet. A szóvivő kiemelte, hogy ez az ügy az Egyesült Államok hatáskörébe tartozik, a megállapodásról szóló dokumentumot nem is ismerik, így következményeit sem tudják értékelni. Hivatalos forrásból nem derült ki semmilyen „azonnali vizsgálat” és az EU mindössze arra várt, hogy világossá váljon, miről egyeztek meg – nem pedig titkos belső eljárásról szólt a kommunikáció.

A fenti példák jól mutatják, hogy a washingtoni csúcs körül a közösségi médiában és egyes hírportálokon számos megtévesztő hír terjedt. Ezek a cikkek rendre valami szenzációs helyzetet ígérnek, ám a tényleges információk alapján ezek az állítások nem állják meg a helyüket. A kattintásvadász cikkek esetén különösen érdemes figyelmesnek lenni, ugyanis rendszerint csak a figyelem felkeltésére törekednek, nem a tények pontos bemutatására.

On November 7, 2025, Viktor Orbán and his delegation paid an official visit to Donald Trump in Washington. The main topics of discussion were the originally planned Russian–American peace summit in Budapest and the expansion of bilateral economic cooperation. According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, the visit aimed to establish a new strategic-economic partnership with the Trump administration. Several domestic newspapers reported on the meeting, and already during the departing flight, numerous videos and recordings were made. The intense media attention was accompanied by a lot of sensationalist content.

During the flight, the participants themselves shared several contents; however, certain online media outlets tried to distort these as much as possible. For example, the online publication Contextus ran a post titled “Extraordinary secret video surfaced from Viktor Orbán’s flight, strange words heard in the background.” This article was also picked up by several smaller online magazines with the same headline.

These articles presented the situation as if a special, secretly recorded scene had been released from the Prime Minister’s plane. In reality, no new or secret footage was made: the clips in question were made using already known public videos. These similarly titled articles appeared on different days, but their content was essentially identical.

Contrary to the claims, no "hidden" or "secret" video from Orbán’s plane has surfaced—the shared materials were all accessible within official press conferences and social media posts. The promised "secret video" does not actually exist; most of these articles contained embedded videos that either linked to deleted content or referenced previously shown footage.

Another clickbait headline from the same site appeared online with the title: “Shocking statement aired on American TV after the Trump-Orbán summit live from Hungary.” The article on contextus.hu and promotions.hu actually described an interview given by Balázs Orbán, the Prime Minister’s political director, on CNN and did not contain any truly shocking or unexpected statements. Thus, the title is misleading: the article does not quote any "shocking" sentence, merely highlighting that CNN covered the meeting live, as also shown by a video posted on Balázs Orbán’s TikTok page. Based on the actual content, it is clear that the aim was to attract attention rather than present any real political "sensation."

According to a report by elemi.hu, among others, the European Commission immediately launched an investigation against Hungary due to the Trump–Orbán meeting. Several portals published articles with this sensational headline, uniformly citing an Italian newspaper (Il Giornale), claiming that European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen announced that an immediate investigation would be started into the exemptions granted by Donald Trump.

The European Commission spokesperson, who is primarily an expert on energy-related topics, did indeed comment on the case, but not quite as the headlines suggest. The spokesperson emphasized that the issue falls under the jurisdiction of the United States, that they are not familiar with the agreement documents, and thus cannot assess its consequences. No official source confirmed any "immediate investigation," and the EU was merely waiting to clarify what was agreed upon—it was not about any secret internal procedure.

These examples clearly show that around the Washington summit, numerous misleading news stories spread on social media and some news portals. These articles often promise sensational developments, but based on actual information, these claims do not hold up. It is particularly important to be cautious with clickbait articles, as they generally aim to attract attention rather than provide an accurate presentation of facts.
